A Method for Variance-Based Sensitivity Analysis of Cascading Failures

Cascading failures of relay operations in power systems are inherently linked with the propagation wide-area system blackouts. In this paper, we consider a cascading failure as an indicator matrix encoding: what relays operated within capturing component and sequence tripping events. We propose that may then be used extended forms variance-based sensitivity estimators to quantitatively rank how sensitive observed variables, considering overall well grouped by network area types. demonstrate our proposed method investigating parameters, conditions, fault location using version IEEE 39 bus model modified include protection relays, wind farms, tap-changing transformers. Input variables included: operational scenario, disturbance location, parameters or thresholds. The Case Studies' results confirm method's utility successfully generating relative rankings input variables' importance respect propagation. also show failures' high due non-linear relationships between failures.
